Perhaps a little more specific, &quot;extreme programming&quot;.

1. Get it working (as primative as necessary) ASAP, &quot;end to end&quot;.
2. For any task, do the absolute minimum necessary.
3. Plan on throwing any piece away and starting over.

See &quot;Extreme Programming Explained&quot; by Beck.

In a personal project, you are your own customer and pair programming is probably not going to happen, but otherwise the main principles of XP seem to fit.
